NEWS & NOTES ST. MARYS GIRLS SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION INFORMATION   Who is eligible? All girls in grades 1 thru 11 may play slow pitch softball. All questions regarding fast pitch softball should be directed to Sue Grothaus at 419-394-8546.   How do I sign up? Fill out the attached registration form and mail it to Bob Roth, 1704 Kingsbury Drive, St. Marys, OH.  Deadline to signup is MARCH 25 or first 300 girls.   DO NOT RETURN THE REGISTRATION FORM TO YOUR TEACHER OR SCHOOL OFFICE. SCHOOLS WILL NOT ACCEPT FORMS!!   What does it cost? Registration is FREE to St. Marys residents for Ponytail, Junior and Teen Leagues. Thanks to the generosity of St. Marys American Legion Post 323, no player fees will be collected for the 2006 season. Each player must be registered to play by mailing the completed registration form to the address above and by the March 25th  deadline.   What equipment do I need to play?  Each girl needs to have a softball/baseball glove. Players are encouraged to use their own bats. Balls, catcher’s gear and helmets are provided. All girls will receive a T-shirt with the name of their team sponsor on it.   Do I have to tryout to make a slow pitch or fast pitch team? No, former players will be assigned to their previous team, unless they are moving up a league.  New players will be assigned to a team and will be notified as soon as possible following the Saturday, March 25th registration deadline. Girls will be contacted by telephone by their respective coaches the week of April 18th.   Leagues are based on your CURRENT grade in school:   1st and 2nd grades (Ponytail League): This is a learning league. There will be 11-14 girls on a team. Coaches will pitch. Girls who have trouble hitting the pitched balls may use a tee after 5 pitches. Practices will start April 27. Games will begin on May 18 and will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 or 7:00pm at Kuck’s Cove Park. Last game will be June 15th. There are 8 games scheduled. 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades (Junior League): Girls will pitch. There will be 11-14 girls on a team. Practices will start April 24th. Games will begin May 15th and will be played on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:00pm. Last game will be June 14th. There are 9 games scheduled. Season will end with a single-elimination tournament June 19th thru 21st. 6th through 11th grades (Teen League): Girls will pitch a slow pitch, which will have a maximum arch of 12 ft.. Practices will start April 25th. Games will begin May 15th and be played on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:00pm. There are 9 games scheduled.
