New Eligibility Date in 2006
Little League Baseball® has changed the "league age determinability date" for players in 2006. The new date is May 1; the old date was August 1.
2006 "SUMMER BIRTHDAY" OPTION -- This change will affect some players whose birthdays are in May, June and July. The SMNLL Board of Directors has voted, effective for the 2006 season only, to give affected players the option to remain in the same league they played in 2005 or to advance to the next higher league.
For example:
- A player who turned 12 on July 1, 2005 played in Little League as a 12-year-old in 2005. But since he will not turn 13 before the new eligibility date of May 1, 2006, he will still be considered a 12-year-old for the 2006 season. For the 2006 season ONLY, he will have the option to remain on the same Little League team as last year, or to advance to Pony League.
The same policy applies to 6-year-olds, 8-year-olds in Lob-Tee Ball and 10-year-olds in Minor League who have May, June and July birth dates.
Parents of 6-year-olds born in May, June or July 1999, who are planning to register them to play in 2006, should be aware that those players will play Lob-Tee Ball for three years before they are eligible for Minor League. There will be no exceptions made for summer birthdays after the 2006 season.
Players affected by this date change will be required to declare a league at registration.
Registration Policy
All Players will be required to Register to play Lob-Tee Ball, Minor League, Little League or Pony League baseball in 2006. Completion of the Registration Form and collection of copies of Little League and Pony League birth certificates will take place at Registration for EVERY PLAYER IN THE SYSTEM AGES 7 THROUGH 14.
All adult volunteers will be required to complete a Waiver form prior to participation. ALL adult volunteers and Umpires will undergo a confidential background check by Little League Baseball® Inc.
