Glory Days actually had its beginnings in 1970. The original members all started rockin' in either the Dean Axe basement or the Jeff Gottschalk basement, bellowing out the tunes we grew up with by the Who, Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad and Steppenwolf. Dean started out as the drummer, with Jeff Gottschalk on organ, Randy Speckman on bass, Dan Uhlenhake on guitar and Rick Mallory singing lead vocal. Dean decided to play Roughrider football and dropped out making way for St. Marys residents Roger Dysert and then Bruce Bubp Jr. to take over drum duties. Jeff Gottschalk switched bands with keyboardist Jeff Hausmann who was playing with local talents Mike Hardin, Jeff Winget and the late, great Jeff Cathcart. In 1973, Bruce Junior left to join Hardin and buddies so the boys looked to the East in Wapakoneta and found Kim Carter to fulfill the promises of super stick swingin'. The boys were known as Piece of Mind and later Red Death. They rocked St. Marys all during their high school years from 1970 to 1974. Talk of a reunion went round and round for 23 years. Finally in the fall of 1996, Brian Webster contacted Rick Mallory about the upcoming MHS class of '74 25th reunion, and the rest is history. The guys caught the big bad bug all over again and have been getting out for nearly four years. Glory Days has been all over the area bowling over festivals, dances and hineygates with their flat out fun loving style. They have also opened shows for such notables as 1964, the Beatles tribute band, and the Danger Brothers. Fun? ABSOLUTELY! Crazy? YOU BET! It's always oldies and classic rock with an especially hard edge with plenty of laughs and audience participation along the way! Here's the guys and their vast and wacky background in the greatest music ever written - 60's and 70's rock and roll! RICK MALLORY - Lead Vocals, guitar
DAN UHLENHAKE - Lead Guitar, back vocals
KIM CARTER - Drums, back vocals
RANDY SPECKMAN - Bass Guitar, back vocals
JEFF GOTTSCHALK - Keyboards, back vocals
DEAN AXE - Guitar, vocals, harmonica

Friday's Featured Guest Artists:
The Van-Dells 8:00 pm Friday, August 11 in the Gazebo. | |
![]() |
The Van-Dells are 50's kind of guys living in the 90's. While space-age boom boxes blast the songs of Madonna, The Smashing Pumpkins and Metallica, The Van-Dells resurrect the hardly-forgotten oldies of Buddy Holly, Bill Haley and The Platters.
The three-man act, backed by a six-piece band, is a greaser's dream come true. "Earth Angel," "Rock Around The Clock" and "The Great Pretender" come back to life when the energetic and zany Van-Dells take the stage. The first show, the guys wear hop sweaters and saddle shoes, a true vision of the 50's. The be-bop sounds are accompanied by good-natured antics and pranks. During the last show, The Van-Dells degrease their hair and don glitzy costumes. There's no funny business in this show, just lots of singing and smooth choreography that leaves audiences begging for more.

Welcome to America's favorite '60's Show featuring THE DEVONSHIRES, the only All-American British band! On tour since 1961, the Devonshire brothers leave their mark in rock music history everywhere they play.
"Freddie Devonshire nearly brought the house down, my club will never be the same" -- Ward Plauche, Backstage Cafe THE DEVONSHIRES are best known for their smash 60's hits "She Thinks I'm a Sheep" and "Do The Freddie!" "Do The Freddie" was later banned in 7 countries including the U.S. due to the violent jerking motions associated with the dance. The Jerk Dance (as it became known) led to brain hemorrhage, convulsions, and in some cases, permanent paralysis! THE DEVONSHIRES Band is composed of five talented brothers from Stalebladder, England. Actually Freddie was born in Kenya to the Nerdawa Tribe. He was mistakenly crated with a shipment of elephant tusks headed for England. He was found and adopted by Ima Devonshire, a Stalebladder resident and music teacher who gave birth to Ian, Derek, Winston and Carter. With further adieu, let's introduce these fine brothers: Ian Buckingham Devonshire - Lead Vocalist and the oldest brother! Ian wrote 150 #1 hit singles in the year 1966 (unfortunately none of them made it to radio in the United States) Winston Salem Devonshire - Back up vocals & Keyboardist Extraordinaire (he is sometimes accused of using mirrors... the other brothers often fear what they call the "Winston Glare") Carter Dane Devonshire (a/k/a/ "The Turtle") - Drums & Percussion, was exiled to Helsinki Finland at an early age and speaks no English (he is also a world-renowned hair dresser and does Freddie's hair while on tour) Derek Dansforth Devonshire brings up the rear (although he has none) on bass guitar and poses as the cordial MC (it's been said that he could talk the ears off a corn stalk). Frederick Bartholemew Devonshire has been called a freak of nature, peculiar, (and late to dinner), his brothers call him their lead guitarist and embarrassing (he was voted "Worst Dressed Human" in Stalebladder in 1968). The audience should be advised to keep a safe distance and wear protective eye-wear when watching Freddie's on-stage antics to minimize the effects of eye pollution. With all this in mind... sit back, relax, and enjoy the music that shaped rock-n-roll history! |

Now high schoolers, they can be found playing area festivals, after game dances and events for the St. Marys Youth Center. The Vogues created a sound that was a fresh, original blend of harmony and it left an indelible mark on the music world. They have been honored as one of the best vocal groups in popular music. The early recording of "You're The One" thrust them into national acclaim. There followed a series of million seller records and albums, including, "My Special Angel", "Turn Around Look At Me", "5 O'Clock World", "'Till", and so many more.
