St. Marys High School graduated its first class in 1874 with Anna Barrington, Lillie Dieker, Carrie Kelsey, Louise Nieber, Florence Hemisphar, O. E. Dunan, and R. B. Gordon as members of that first elass. The 100th anniversary of the High School will be observed next year, in 1974. The Alumni Association was founded in 188l. Holy Rosary Catholic School was founded in 1902 during the pastorate of the Rev. Father Francis Kessing. In 1957, the present fine school building was erected at a cost of about $300,000, contributed by members and friends of the parish. It includes classrooms, offices and a multi-purpose room to serve as a dining room, auditorium and gym. The former school building provides space for the parish and school library. All of the elementary schools, public and parochial, have multi-purpose rooms with the exception of Bunker Hill. These multi-purpose rooms serve as cafeterias, gymnasiums and as auditoriums for programs. Memorial High School also has a large auditorium and combination stagegymnasium. The pupils and teachers of Memorial High use the McBroom cafeteria. Memorial High School Football Field directly back of the school has a stadium and bleachers capable of seating approximately 2,000. The stadium was erected in 1937 and enlarged in 1965. A baseball field and tennis courts are part of the athletic facilities at Memorial-McBroom . The track, built this last year, is located at the West School grounds. The St. Marys School District is part of the Auglaize-Mercer Joint Vocational School District which has sought to establish a joint vocational school to serve all of the schools in Mercer county, St. Marys, New Bremen, New Knoxville and Minster schools in Auglaize county. The bond issue proposed for the school and operating levy have been defeated three times by the voters. Recently the district was reorganized and will likely resubmit the issues. The St. Marys School District is currently served by 138 certified personnel including the superintendent, principals for each of the buildings, guidance counselors in the high school, school nurse, a psychologist, art and music teachers, including vocal and instrumental.
