McBroom Students Win Essay Contests

Two McBroom Junior High School students were winners in recent state and national essay writing contests.

Elaine Schaaf was a winner in the Women Making History Essay contest sponsored by the women's division of the OBES in Columbus. She wrote about Betty Nesmith, inventor of Liquid Paper. She will go to the State House on March 9 to receive her $100 and certificate presented by first lady Mrs. Hope Taft. This is the fifth winner for McBroom in the seven year history of the contest which is only for eighth graders in the state of Ohio.

Laura Hosek is the winner of the 1999 Project Wisdom Essay Contest in the Middle School Division. This is a national contest for students with the three divisions: high school, middle school, and elementary school. She will receive $250 US Savings Bond and her essay will be on the Web site: www.projectwisdom.com at the end of March.
