Mustang GT Grand Prize For Duck Race 2000

ST. MARYS -- The grand prize of the 2000 K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Committee SummerFest Duck Race will once again be a used automobile.

Through the generous sponsorship of Larry Schaaf Auto Sales, the “owner” of this year’s winning duck will take home a bright red 1990 Ford Mustang GT.

"We’re very pleased to have Larry Schaaf sponsor our grand prize for the third straight year," Duck Race Committee Chairman Rees McKee said. "He sets a great example of community involvement that has enabled our committee to make great strides toward the maintenance and improvement of one of the largest recreational facilities in the area."

Through the tax-exempt St. Marys Community Foundation the K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Committee has set a goal to raise $100,000 in principle, with the interest used for the perpetual upkeep of the park.

Since it was founded in 1992, the Committee has obtained about 80 percent of its goal, while still contributing each year to park maintenance and capital improvement projects.

Last year the Duck Race netted over $10,000 for K.C. Geiger Park with over 2,000 ducks entered in the race. Over $8,000 in cash and prizes was generously donated by the community.

“The strength of the Duck Race’s appeal to ticket buyers has always been in two areas,” said Duck Race Committee member Chris Botkin. “The money goes to a good cause, and the odds of winning a prize are relatively high because we have numerous donations.”

The Committee is currently soliciting prize donations and will publish updates to the list as the race nears. A complete prize list and other race information is available on the internet at http:/ridertown.com

The race is held each year during the Sunday evening festivities of the St. Marys Mary SummerFest beginning at 6 p.m. on the St. Marys River.

Duck tickets for this year’s race are $5 and will be on sale very soon at Larry Schaaf Auto Sales, Inc on Celina Road and at other locations.
