2000 Rotary Club 'Concert in the Park Series' ST. MARYS -- The opening concert in the 2000 St. Marys Rotary Club "Concert in the Park" series is set for Friday, May 19, at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Park Gazebo with "Jazz in the Park." Featuring the Junior High Jazz Ensemble, and Memorial High School Jazz Bands I and II, this concert has become the traditional opening concert for the series. Under the direction of Dane Newlove, Director of Bands and Performing Arts Department Chair for the St. Marys City Schools, the performance will feature swing, jazz, pop, and latin music from all eras. Some of the selections include: "Tuxedo Junction," "How High the Moon," "Brown-Eyed Girl," "Leap Frog," "Smooth," and "Some of My Best Friends are the Blues," featuring vocal soloist Donal Duffy. In all, sixty-five students perform in the Jazz Ensembles of the St. Marys City Schools. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs for a great evening of music!In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be held in the Memorial High School Performing Arts Center.
