St. Marys, Area Election Battles Shape Up

ST. MARYS, OHIO - There will be several contested races in Ridertown for the Nov. 2, General Election.
    One of the few contested races for city government is at the top where Republican Dean Hobler is challenging Democratic incumbent Greg Freewalt for the mayoral seat.
    The only other race is at Council-At-Large where four candidates are seeking to fill three seats. Michael Bernard, James Harris, Lyndella Andrews and Ronald Ginter are each seeking a place on council as an at-large selection. The top three vote-getters will serve.
    For President of Council, Daniel Hoelscher is running unopposed as is fellow Republicans Kraig Noble for Law Director and Douglas Riesen for City Auditor.
    All four ward seats are unopposed, including Republican Michael Kleinhenz in the First Ward, Democrat Dennis Vossler in the Second Ward, Democrat Billy Slemmons in the Third Ward and Democrat Teena Ward in the Fourth Ward.

    There is plenty of opposition for the two St. Marys City School Board seats. Incumbents Robert Burden and John Lampert are seeking re-election, but they will be challenged by Burton Andrews, Jeff Ginter and Allen Solomon. The top two vote-getters will serve.
    There is also competition for several of the township races, including St. Marys Township. City Council veteran Cliff Fetters is running for trustee along with Douglas Topp and Robert Wilker. Each township will elect one trustee and a clerk Nov. 2. Catherine Buck and Lynda Sudman are each running for Clerk of St. Marys Township.
    In Noble Township, Frank C. Murray and Steve Schamp are vying for the Trustee position, while Roger Leffel is unopposed for Clerk.
    The Moulton Township race will appear to be unopposed on the ballot, however, there is one registered write-in candidate. Mark Ruppert will run on the ballot, with William Doering registered as a write-in candidate. Larry Johns is running unopposed for Moulton Township Clerk.






    Persons wishing to vote by absentee ballot must have a signed request to the Auglaize County Board of Elections no later than Oct. 30. To request an absentee ballot, you may fill out a form available from the Board of Elections or include your name, signature, voter residence address, reason for being absence and the election for which the ballot is being requested on paper and mail it to the Auglaize County Board of Elections at 12 W. Main St., Wapakoneta, Ohio 45895-1975 Completed ballots must be delivered to the Board of Elections in person, by close relative, or by mail no later than the close of polls on election day.
