Lake Campus BEC Offering Small Business Management Seminars.

In addition to the very popular software package, Quickbooks 2003, a number of excellent small business management seminars are being offered this spring through the Business Enterprise Center at the Lake Campus of Wright State University.
Ron Kremer, Lake Campus Associate Professor of Accountancy, will teach Session A Quickbooks 2003. The seminar will be offered in a three-session format, on Tuesday, March 25, Wednesday, March 26, and Thursday, March 27, from 6-10 p.m., in Room 194 at the campus. The cost for this session is $90. This workshop will review various means of data entry for accurate record keeping, and participants will learn to set up and use the accounting software Quickbooks 2003. Instruction will be in such topics as invoice and statement preparation, inventory tracking, payroll, and financial reporting. Reports can be easily transferred to Excel spreadsheets. All participants will receive a certificate for completing the 12-hour workshop.
Session B Introduction to Graphics will also be offered March 25 through 27 from 6:00-9:15 p.m. in Room 185 Andrews at the Lake Campus. The cost for this three-session seminar is $90. The seminar will utilize Adobe PageMaker 6.5 and Microsoft Word XP to help small businesses create forms, flyers, and other desktop publishing items. A general working overview will be offered as well as instruction on using the drawing toolbar in Microsoft Word. Design concepts, formatting tips, and font and graphic usage will be discussed. In this hands-on seminar, participants will create a flyer and/or other documents for their individual companies. A certificate will be offered at the completion of all three classes. Instructor for this Introduction to Graphics is Carol Jones, a Lake Campus Office Information Systems program graduate and the campus’ faculty secretary.
Jon Heffner, BEC Director, will teach Session C “Starting Right” Pre-business Planning. The session will help those people starting or operating their own business achieve maximum potential by “Starting Right!” Participants will learn how to prepare a business plan, what steps are required to borrow money, and other vital information to assist in the running of a small business. These sessions are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 6-8:00 p.m. The cost is $35.
Session D Japanese Language for Businesses will teach participants the beginnings of speaking and understanding the Japanese language. Sandra Leichty will be the instructor. This 6-week course includes tips for travelers, the use of money, and differences in business philosophy and will help establish better negotiating and international business etiquette skills. The seminar will be held Thursday evenings, March 26, April 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 6-8:00 p.m. in Room 182 at the campus. The cost is $45.
