Lake Campus’ Colleen Fawcett to Make Presentation

Colleen Fawcett, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the department of teacher education at the Lake Campus of Wright State University, will present “Developing Social Skills in Kindergarten Children” at the Virginia Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC) annual conference to be held March 20 through March 22 in Richmond, Virginia. This statewide conference is designed to help participants expand their knowledge of early childhood and raise the level of quality programming for young children throughout our nation. Dr. Fawcett will be sharing her research on the subject and presenting 25 activities classroom teachers can use with children who have not developed the social skills necessary to be successful in kindergarten.

A frequent presenter for the AEYC, Fawcett has presented on the topic of ADHD at the Midwest AEYC conference in Milwaukee, to the association’s Chicago metropolitan conference, and to its annual conference in Chicago, in addition to this presentation in Richmond regarding social skills for kindergarten children. Fawcett holds a Ph.D. and a master of science in early childhood education. She is certified in early childhood education and holds certification with the Center for Families and Children in childcare and infant-toddlers and developmentally appropriate practices for preschoolers.

The Association for the Education of Young Children is a membership organization dedicated to supporting professionals who are committed to quality care and education for children from birth to age 8. The association, founded in 1926, values advocacy, diversity, education of the public, equity, networking, professional advancement, and public policy.
