Wright State University and the Lake Campus are pleased to announce that Betty Staugler, a Celina resident, has recently been promoted to Manager, Buildings & Grounds at the Lake Campus.
At a recent luncheon Wright State University Physical Plant Director Ed Baker recognized Staugler for the promotion and her crew and the Lake Campus for their assistance to her. “Betty displays a high degree of integrity and leadership. In Betty’s recent performance appraisal I could award her nothing less than an “outstanding” rating. We in the Dayton Physical Plant are glad to do our job of bringing Betty support and our help.”
All luncheon speakers praised Staugler’s contribution to the Lake Campus. Anita Curry-Jackson, Lake Campus Dean, noted that “in the short period of time I have been with the campus I have been very impressed with Betty’s work and her leadership and the spirit she demonstrates. Betty is not locked into a job description. She simply invests herself in the life and quality of the Lake Campus.” Associate Dean Greg Schumm said throughout the 26 years he has been with the campus, “Betty and her crew are without a doubt the best crew I’ve ever seen work here. All Betty’s employees are willing and proud to do their work, and this makes my job here a lot easier; I don’t have to worry about buildings and grounds at all.”
WSU’s Teresa Wood, Associate Director, Physical Plant, agreed that “Betty has provided the best leadership we’ve had at the Lake Campus and that the relationship with the Dayton department has been strengthened under Betty and her staff’s commitment.”
Staugler is in no way new to the Lake Campus. She graduated in 1987 from the Lake Campus, receiving three associate degrees - accounting, business and administration, and manufacturing engineering. In 1992 she was awarded a bachelor of science in business management with a concentration in production management, and received her Masters in Business Administration in 2002. She began working as a student employee for the Lake Campus in 1985 and worked in that capacity until her graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1992. She came to work in 1996 as an employee in the Building & Grounds department as a maintenance worker, and was promoted to Supervisor of Maintenance in 1999.
Staugler not only manages the Buildings & Grounds department at the campus but is also very involved in other campus activities and events as well. She has been very instrumental in establishing the Lake Campus Athletic Boosters and is herself one of the Lakers’ men’s and women’s basketball teams greatest and most loyal fans. Betty not only attends almost all of the Lakers’ games but also helps prepare the game programs, takes pictures, and keeps Lake Campus faculty and staff informed about the teams. She also involves herself in other student activities such as the Spring Fling, the Halloween Celebration, Movie Night, and the Christmas Holiday Outdoor Lighting.
Staugler worked previously at Celina Insurance Group as a Buildings Engineer. She still has a good “working” relationship with Celina Group as she exchanges equipment and ideas with the Group’s maintenance department.
Says Staugler of the promotion and her co-workers: “This is everyone’s moment. This is what we do, what we are, what it takes to make a good department.” In what little spare time Betty has she enjoys being with her children and grandchildren.
