St. Marys, Ohio -- Ft. Recovery High School’s Candice Gehret and Elida High School’s Adam Miller captured top honors in 2003 Midwest Electric, Inc. scholarship program judging at Wright State University-Lake Campus, Celina.
The two seniors each receive a $1,000 scholarship and will represent Midwest Electric in the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives statewide scholarship competition, May 12 in Columbus.
Second place $750 scholarships were awarded to Mindy Kahlig, Ft. Recovery High School, and Chad Knapke, Marion Local High School.
Receiving third place $500 scholarship awards were Stacy Langenkamp, St. Henry High School, and Joseph McGovern, New Bremen High School.
The six were selected from a field of 46 area high school seniors, with a 3.5 or higher grade point average, whose parents are Midwest Electric customers.
Gehret has a 4.0 grade point average and is ranked second in her class. She is planning to attend Ohio Northern University to study pharmacy. She is the daughter of Patrick and Virginia Gehret, Ft. Recovery.
Miller is the son of Mark and Barbara Miller, Elida. He has a 4.0 grade point average and is ranked first in his class. He plans to pursue an education in architecture at Harvard College.
Kahlig has not yet chosen a college, and plans to study mathematics education. She has a 4.0 grade point average. Her parents are Don and Linda Kahlig, Ft. Recovery.
Knapke will attend the University of Dayton to study civil engineering. He has a 3.993 grade point average, is ranked first in his class, and is the son of Ivo and Pam Knapke, Maria Stein.
Langenkamp will pursue an education in clinical laboratory science at an Ohio university. She has a 4.0 grade point average and is ranked first in her class. She is the daughter of Chris and Diane Langenkamp, St. Henry.
McGovern will study architecture and has not yet chosen a university. He has a 3.9589 grade point average and is the son of Larry and Debbie Schmiesing, New Bremen.
Based in St. Marys, Midwest Electric is the customer-owned electric cooperative for nearly 10,000 homes, farms and businesses in Allen, Auglaize, Mercer, VanWert, Shelby, Putnam and Darke counties.
