Six students from the Wright State University Lake Campus Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter earned top-place rankings at the recent 2003 BPA State Competitive Events in held at University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College and have qualified to advance to the national competition in Dallas, Texas, April 30 through May 3. The members and how they placed in the events are:
Jessica Barga of North Star - first, Advanced Interview Skills; first, Presentation Management Skills - Individual; and second, Human Resources Management.
Deb Wiess of Van Wert - first, Administrative Support Team; first, Entrepreneur; and second, Legal Office Procedures.
Brittany Billling of Anna - first, Graphic Design Promotion; and third, Desktop Publishing.
Cami Buchholz of New Bremen - first, Interview Skills; first, Administrative Support Team; and fourth, Fundamental Word Processing.
Jennifer Perry of Celina - first, Administrative Support Team; second, Medical Office Procedures; and third, Advanced Word Processing.
Jeanette Leon of Ft. Recovery - third, Basic Office Systems and Procedures.
Also at the convention, Brittany Billing, in addition to her first and third place finishes in the competition, was elected as chair of the BPA State Executive Council. In this capacity, Billing will represent Ohio in the national level Business Professionals of America organization.
Over the course of the two-day competition, approximately 150 college students from across the state participated in the event. Among the categories in the competition are desktop publishing, computer graphics, spreadsheets, keyboarding, speeches, interviews, and Web page development.
Business Professionals of America is a national organization for students enrolled in business courses and offers its members an opportunity to excel and to compete in various business skills events with other members from across the state and the nation.
Associate Professor of Office Information Systems (OIS) H. Roger Fulk and OIS instructor Lisa Elick serve as the local chapter advisors.
