ST. MARYS - Midwest Electric and Touchstone Energy have donated $4,000 as the primary sponsor for the 2003 Lake Festival fireworks program.
The Lake Festival is held in Celina and around Grand Lake during the last weekend in July. The fireworks over Ohio’s largest inland lake attracts about 30,000 spectators, according to Monte Diegel, festival chairman.
"The Lake Festival is a very popular family event for not only Mercer County but for families throughout our service area in west central Ohio," said Rick Gerdeman, Midwest Electric Manager/CEO. "Midwest Electric and Touchstone Energy are proud to be part of such a large, successful event."
Touchstone Energy is the national brand image for hundreds of electric cooperatives, including Midwest Electric. The brand name and its tagline - "The power of human connections" - convey a promise of excellent service and community commitment, Gerdeman said.
Gerdeman noted that community involvement is a cornerstone of Midwest Electric. He said other examples of the cooperative’s commitment to community include:
- The Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund, which has donated more than $220,000 to 135 area groups and worthy causes since 1998.
- The cooperative’s electric safety demonstrations, which annually reach more than 1,000 children and adults.
- The cooperative’s 4-H Fusebusters program, which has taught youth since 1954 about magnetism, electricity and electronics.
- Since 1955, returning nearly $12 million in patronage capital to Midwest Electric members.
Based in St. Marys, Midwest Electric is the customer-owned electric cooperative for 10,000 homes, farms and businesses in Allen, Auglaize, Darke, Mercer, Putnam, Shelby and Van Wert counties.
