Midwest Electric Donates to Local Charities
ST. MARYS-- Members of Midwest Electric, Inc., donated $10,500 to 13 west-central Ohio charities and community projects through the cooperative's Community Connection Fund on April 15.
Since the program began in 1998, the Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund has provided $231,000 to 148 area causes.
The recent Fund recipients include the following:
God's Storehouse, of Wapakoneta, $2,000 to purchase food for the organization's community food pantry for less fortunate residents of easternAuglaize County.
Crossroads Crisis Center, Lima, $1,750 to help repair the kitchen following major water damage that occurred recently. The organization provides counseling and support to women and children who are victims of abuse.
St. Marys Township Volunteer Fire Department, $1,500 to purchase pagers and chargers for department personnel.
New Knoxville-Washington Township Fire Department, $1,000 to purchase First Responder rescue equipment such as saws, rescue chains, bolt cutters and more.
Hospice of Darke and Mercer Counties, $1,000 to help send 40 area youth to the Hospice's Camp BEARable Children's Bereavement Camp for youngsters who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Lutheran Social Services, Lima, $700 to help fund meals and the food pantry for less fortunate residents of Allen County.
St. Henry Police Department, $550 to purchase a police mountain bike so the department can start a bike patrol unit.
Van Wert Optimist Club, $500 to help support the Club's community programs in Van Wert County.
Delphos Canal Commission, $500 to help purchase emergency and exit lights for the museum.
Auglaize County Cattlemen's Association, $500 to help fund the construction of a steel barn on the Auglaize County Fairgrounds.
Marion Community Development Organization, $200 to help the organization update its comprehensive community plan.
Cridersville Historical Society, $200 to help fund the group's Civil War re-enactment program for schools and community events.
Northwood/Maplewood Learning Center, Lima, $100 to help purchase new headphones for the Center's computer lab for low-income youth.
The Midwest Community Connection Fund is a voluntary charitable program. Participating members' monthly electric bills are rounded up to the next dollar, with the additional pennies deposited in the Fund.
A Board of Trustees, comprised of community members and separate from the Midwest Electric Board of Trustees, oversees the application and allocation process.
