Thomas A. Knapke, Wright State University Lake Campus Assistant Dean for Development, recently delivered a keynote address for the 58th annual Region IV National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW) Conference in Lansing, Michigan. Tamre Hileman, NAIW Region IV Vice President and Personal Lines Underwriting Manager for Central Insurance Companies, Van Wert, introduced Knapke to conference attendees.
Knapke spoke on Analyzing Your Leadership Style in Our Changing Environment. “By understanding your leadership style and utilizing your personal strengths,” said Knapke, “you can better adjust to the ever-changing business environment. Workplace demands are shifting so rapidly that employers need people who are flexible and who can think, work, and deal with others inside and outside the organization. Understanding your style can be the first step in improving your relationship within the business environment.” Knapke further noted that the business leader who has this self-knowledge is constantly evolving both professionally and personally.
The National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW) boasts over 350 local association memberships in 48 states and in Canada, Puerto Rico, England, Virgin Islands, Australia, and Africa. NAIW serves its members by proving professional education, an environment in which to build business alliances, and the opportunity to make connections with people of differing career paths and levels of experience within the insurance industry. The association fosters and encourages diversity, offering a network for members in all career categories, all lines of insurance, and all cultural and experiential backgrounds, and promotes mentoring, acceptance of change, personal growth, and the flexibility of participation to all its membership.
Knapke is a Wright State Professor Emeritus and advisor to the MBA program at the Lake Campus in addition to the campus’ Assistant Dean for Development. He earned his BS in Education with a concentration in Business at the University of Dayton, an MBA in Management Accounting from Ball State University and his Ph.D. in Educational Administration with a minor in Business Management from Bowling Green State University.
