Miss Heidi (Heidi Steinke), Wright State University Lake Campus Adjunct Instructor of Art and Art Education, was recently the invited guest of Northern Illinois University (NIU) where she participated in a panel formed to critique the work of the University’s current graduate students in their fine arts program.
While the guest of the University, Professor Miss Heidi also presented her work in a slide lecture to both faculty and students. NIU’s Master Printmaker Michael Barnes assisted Miss Heidi in transforming two drawings into an edition of lithographic prints. One print from each set is now in the permanent collection of the Northern Illinois University Museum of Fine Arts.
The two prints and two drawings from that visit will be on display at the Atelier Salon in its new location at 224 South Main Street, Celina, from May 22 through July 31. A reception will be held at the Salon on Thursday, May 22, from 7-9 p.m. Miss Heidi will be giving a brief lecture regarding her visit to NIU and the work that resulted. Also on view will be two works by the printmaker Barnes and a series of self portraits by Miss Heidi from her 2001 show, “Rubbings,” at the Linda Schwartz Gallery in Cincinnati.
The event is free and open to the public and is being held in conjunction with the opening of Atelier Salon’s new location. Any questions or comments may be directed to Miss Heidi at 419-394-0707 or to Terri Klosterman at Atelier, 419-586-2074.
Miss Heidi is represented by Wood Street Gallery in Chicago in addition to the Linda Schwartz Gallery in Cincinnati where she has both solo and group exhibitions.
Miss Heidi earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati with a concentration in drawing in 1997. She then received a Master of Fine Arts, with a concentration in painting, from the University of Notre Dame which she attended with a Graduate Student Full Fellowship. She was named Notre Dame’s Outstanding Graduate Student Teacher for Excellence in Teaching in 2000. While at Notre Dame, she also served as chairperson for a student organizing committee for artist lectures and symposiums, as curator of an art exhibition, and as a production assistant.
