The 2nd annual Wright State University Lake Campus Benefit Golf Outing was held this past weekend at Northmoor Country Club. Format for the tournament was a 4-person scramble best ball, 18 holes of golf. Finishing first of the 18 teams participating and winning the first place prize of $200 was the team of Dennis Ray, John Mueller, Dean Paulus, and Drew Paulus.
The tournament is held annually to support the Lake Campus golf team that is coached by the Lake Campus’ Vaughn Schellhause. Area businesses sponsored individual holes, and signs were posted at the holes recognizing these businesses for their generosity.
A raffle and 50-50 drawing were held. The grand prize, a Weber grill, was won by Stan Chisholm of St. Marys, a golfer in the Outing. Pauline Cron of Celina won a one-night stay at Amerihost, and Karen Murphy of Mendon won a quilt donated by Gilbert Furniture. Many other prizes donated by area businesses were given away.
The golf program was reinstated several years ago when students expressed an interest in adding more athletic programs at the Lake Campus. Lake Campus currently hosts men’s and women’s basketball in addition to golf and are working towards reinstating women’s volleyball.
Wright State University Lake Campus competes in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference. The Lake Campus and the campus Athletic Boosters believe that “the athletic program at the Lake Campus offers our students a balance between mind, spirit, and body, affording the student-athlete the opportunity of personal development in health, wellness, leadership, and respect for others, along with a quality education.”
