Summerfest 2003 “Supper and Sounds in the Park”
Do you remember the big band sounds of the 1940’s? Tunes such as “New York, New York” and “Tangerine” were popular hits of the big band era. Well, if you enjoy the “big band sounds”, you will certainly enjoy this year’s kick-off to Summerfest 2003 when “Supper and Sounds in the Park” proudly presents “The Big Band Sound of AC Swing” on Thursday evening, August 7th in Memorial Park (rain or shine).
The performance of “The Big Band Sound of AC Swing”, is sponsored by the St. Marys Rotary Club as part of their Concert in the Park Series. The band is under the direction of Scott Kuenning and plays the music made popular in the 1940’s. With it’s 20 pieces, the group is able to obtain orchestra sound of some of the great bands of the 40’s like Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman. This unique sound of big band music centers around the reed section accented by the power of brass. Of course, no group would be complete without the drive of keyboard, percussion, and bass. Come out to Memorial Park and allow “The Big Band Sound of AC Swing” to take you on a “Sentimental Journey” that we guarantee will put you “In the Mood”. The band will be playing from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Evening festivities are sponsored by Marv Ruppert Insurance and Mark Cisco and Company CPA. The evening will kick off at 5:00 p.m. with great food by the St. Marys City Schools’ Business Advisory Council and the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. “Supper”, consisting of a sandwich, a side, and desert, will be served cafeteria style until 7:00 p.m. Presale dinner tickets for “Supper and Sounds” are $4.00 each and are available by contacting the Chamber Office, Community First Bank & Trust, Minster Band, Mercer Savings Bank, Bank One, or from any Business Advisory Council member.
Thanks, Kurt Kuffner.
