MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2003--Fiber-to-the-home market leader Optical Solutions announced today that Ohio-based TSC will deploy its FiberPath(R) 400 platform to the community of St. Marys, located about 70 miles northwest of Dayton, Ohio. TSC is a 12,000-line independent telephone company that has been serving Wapakoneta, Cridersville and the surrounding areas with phone service since 1895.
For the community of St. Marys, this FTTH deployment means that residents and businesses will now benefit from first rate voice, video, and data services - all bundled together and offered at a competitive price. For TSC, deploying FTTH means it can better serve the community, significantly increase its take rates for broadband services, and grow its market share in the region. TSC currently provides local telephone and cable TV service in Wapakoneta and Cridersville, and is now expanding into the neighboring community of St. Marys with a powerful new FiberPath 400 fiber optic network.
"TSC has always had an uncompromising service ethic and dedication to our customers, and this new FTTH network is the best way we can ensure they have access to the most advanced applications out there - including telemedicine, online education and streaming video entertainment," said Randy Bosler, director of sales and marketing at TSC.
TSC is deploying Optical Solutions' FiberPath 400 system, which is based on a passive optical network (PON) architecture. FiberPath 400 is capable of delivering high-speed data, hundreds of channels of digital and analog television, and multiple lifeline-quality voice connections, all on the same fiber network.
"The city of St. Marys is very proud to be the first community in Ohio - and one of 70 communities in the nation - to be served by fiber-to-the-home technology," said St. Marys Mayor Greg Freewalt. "This high tech network will give our residents new cost effective options for telephone, video and internet services, and we are confident it will also help attract new businesses to St. Marys."
"It is truly exciting to be working with TSC as a partner as it brings FTTH technology with all its benefits and promise to the state of Ohio," said Brian Brown, senior vice president of sales and customer service at Optical Solutions. "The heritage of TSC since 1895 has been to continually innovate and provide exceptional service to its customers, and this new FTTH network will be instrumental to those efforts. With this broadband business model, everyone wins."
