High Water Seeps into St. Marys

ST. MARYS, OHIO -- A series of storms over the Fourth of July weekend sent the St. Marys River over its banks Monday morning.
Heavy rain and dangerous lightning caused power outages, flooded basements and flooded roadways beginning Friday and continuing through Monday.
Sand bags went up along the St. Marys Municipal Building Monday, as the St. Marys River left its banks in Memorial Park. Flooding occurred in many of the usual places as several residential streets along the south end of town were closed to traffic.
City crews began pumping water from the storm sewers Monday afternoon to minimize residential damage.
High water put Larkin Park and parts of K.C. Geiger Park under water, while water rose into the parking lot at Goodyear.
Additional storms Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning have kept the river above flood stage.
