Local Resident in MBA Program at the Lake Campus

Cynthia Holtzapple.

Learning to be open to new ideas and trends, getting a better understanding of how the world of business is changing, and learning from others how to collectively offer solutions. These are just some of the rewards Cynthia Holtzapple of Wapakoneta is gaining in her MBA coursework as part of the 5th cohort group of the Master’s in Business Administration program at the Lake Campus of Wright State University.

Holzapple who has worked in higher education administration for more than 13 years says her new knowledge is helpful to her in her job as Assistant Controller at Ohio Northern University. “It is great to learn from others, especially that we all have similar problems but can offer differing support and solutions.”

Cindy was looking to expand on her business education, skills, and background, and says that continuing to learn, grow, and develop is a life long process for her. She investigated the MBA program at the Lake Campus and decided to get involved because “I was impressed with program content, with faculty and administrative support, and the course and major flexibility.”

In fact, Holtzapple says she highly recommends the part-time weekend format of the MBA program at the Lake Campus. “It is geared toward working students with families. MBA Coordinator Tom Knapke and his graduate assistant are very student oriented, working to meet our needs and expectations.” She also says topics taught are very relevant to issues and concerns of today’s business world.

Most rewarding to Holtzapple has been that she is getting a better understanding of the business world through MBA coursework and at the same time enjoying meeting and learning from the “great people in our class. They are a diverse group of people with interesting career experiences who are open to sharing their ideas, experiences, and solutions.”

Holtzapple is a Certified Public Accountant and holds an associate degree of arts from Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in business administration from Ohio Northern. She is a 1977 graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High School.

Though Cindy notes that juggling home life, her job and classes is difficult, she says her family, especially her husband Devin, have been very supportive. “Successful completion of the MBA definitely requires both prioritizing critical tasks to complete and determining how best to allot my time,” Holtzapple says. The couple has two sons, Jarrod and Brock.

“Make the commitment and go for it! Education is an investment in yourself that will broaden your perspective, benefit your employer, enhance your career, and entice you to continue to learn and grow throughout your lifetime,” Holtzapple concludes.

The Master’s of Business Administration program at Wright State University is accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), assuring both students and prospective employers that the program’s quality and commitment to continuing improvement are verified by periodic peer review and rigorous self-assessment and have satisfied the standards of the management education community.

The Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University offers this innovative curriculum that incorporates a number of unique elements, reflecting both new business realities and conceptual developments. In addition to thorough coverage of functional and analytical skills, the MBA curriculum introduces strong student preparation in teamwork, offers challenging cross-functional system solution seeking, teaches assessment of the competitive forces in global markets, and promotes the development of effective communication skills.

The MBA program is offered on weekends only, five times per quarter. A bachelor’s degree is required for admission into this program, as well as a GMAT score. Persons interested in more information should contact Dr. Thomas A.
