Schaaf Opens Duck Race Ticket Sales

ST. MARYS, OHIO -- The K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Committee's Eleventh Annual Duck Race Ticket Sales officially got underway Monday, August 4 when First Prize sponsor Larry Schaaf sold ticket #0001 to 2003 SummerFest Committee Chairman Todd Yohey.

Larry Schaaf Auto Sales has sponsored the Duck Race Grand Prize since 1998, this year donating a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo. The ticket holder of the first duck across the finish line on Sunday, August 10 will receive the vehicle.

In addition to fulfilling the traditional SummerFest Committee Chairman duty of purchasing the first Duck Race ticket, Todd Yohey will also be a participant in the fourth annual Celebrity Regatta, the Duck Race's "time trials" inner tube race. The Celebrity Regatta begins on the St. Marys River at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, the Duck Race begins at 6:00 p.m.

The Regatta field is now set. In alphabetical order, the other 2003 participants are:

  • Independent Candidate for Mayor & Owner of Bartlett's Drive Thru - Brad Bartlett
  • 2-Time OHSAA State Track Champion - Stacy Clausing
  • St. Marys Fire Department Chief - Ken Cline
  • 3-Time Qualifier in 2 OHSAA State Swimming Events - Amy Cron
  • Owner/Operator S&W Motel and Suites - Ron Gorby
  • St. Marys Surgical Associates Partner & Defending Champion - Dr. Bob Keighley
  • "Mr. MHS" - Tom "Boog" Knous
  • Staff Reporter for The Evening Leader - John Krupa
  • Owner/Operator of Miller's Café - Kay Maher
  • State Representative - Derrick Seaver
  • 2002 SummerFest Queen - Kelly Jo Zink

Nearly 100 cash and merchandise Duck Race prizes have been donated by local merchants so far.

Duck Race tickets are $5 each and can be purchased prior to SummerFest at Larry Schaaf Auto Sales, 1525 Celina Road, St. Marys. During the festival tickets are available at the bright yellow Duck Booth located in Memorial Park.
