McBroom Girls Finish First at Spencerville


McBroom Boys Finish Third at Spencerville
Riders Run Well at Spencerville

SPENCERVILLE -- Three St. Marys Cross Country teams brought home hardware from the 27th annual Spencerville Invitational, which was held Saturday at Spencerville High School.

The McBroom Girls team captured first place in the Junior High Open (all teams) Division, while the McBroom Boys finished third in the "Black" (large school) division.

The Memorial High School Girls team brought home a trophy for its third place team finish in the Black Division, while the Boys finished fifth.

McBroom runners took first place in both junior high races. Rachel Stilwell paced the champion girls team with a first place finish in 13:17. Brad McElroy paced the Roughrider boys with a first place run in 11:37.

For the McBroom Girls, Natalie Ahlers finished 10th in 14:01; Ashley McEldowney 12th in 14:08; Heather Bradford 33rd in 14:59; Katie Heitkamp 46th in 15:16; Sarah Scott 62nd in 15:55; Whitney Hagen 64th in 16:02; Ashley Bubp 73rd in 16:20; Leslie Hall 77th in 16:35; and Diana Saintignon 115th in 20:32.

St. Marys finished with 73 points to take first place. The Riders were followed by Lincolnview, New Knoxville, Marion Local, Coldwater, Indian Lake, Allen East, Lima Shawnee, New Bremen and Ottawa-Glandorf.

Josh Maze was the second runner for the McBroom boys, finishing 17th in 13:27. He was followed by Dex Yelton 22nd in 13:33; Scott Anderson 32nd in 14:04; Eric Anderson 36th in 14:19; Ryan Gossard 49th in 15:04; Tyler Miller 60th in 15:38; Tyler Harsock 65th in 15:53; Marcus Baker 68th in 16:09; Jared Storer 73rd in 16:24; Jay Cook 78th in 16:56; Andy Durkee 85th in 20:14 and Chris Schwartz 86th in 21:55.

Shawnee won the team title followed by Coldwater, St. Marys, Lima, Wayne Trace, Ottawa-Glandorf, Allen East, Indian Lake, Lima Central Catholic and Holy Rosary.

Holy Rosary runners included: Jason Rader (51st, 15:08); Steve Beckett (52nd, 15:10); (Tylor Goubeau (58th, 15:31); Sean Wachauf (62nd, 15:43); Eric Wachauf (72nd, 16:23); Dan Koch (76th, 16:48); Tyler Luthman (77th, 16:49).

Freshman Kimber brown paced the MHS girls with fourth place finish in 21:03 in the 5K high school race. Jasmine Craft followed in 17th in 22:35; Kim Harmon was 20th in 23:01; Kelsey Knous 25th in 23:15; Megan Fledderjohann 37th in 24:09; Emilee Green 42nd in 24:44; Karen Briggs 47th in 25:14; Tiffany Bergman 50th in 25:18; Natalie Severt 54th in 25:33; Rachel Roberts 61st in 26:26; and Samantha Meinerding 83rd in 32:21.

Coldwater captured the team title, followed by LCC, St. Marys, Ben Logan, Ottawa-Glandorf, Wayne Trace, Lima Shawnee, Bath and Paulding.

Like the girls, the Memorial boys were also led by a freshman as Jason Durkee finished in 6th place at 17:45. Adam Maze was close behiind in 10th at 17:59; followed by Lee Schwiterman in 35th at 19:12; Brett Fredrick in 38th at 19:20 and Travis Frilling50th in 20:02.

Coldwater won the team title, followed by O-G, Wayne Trace, LCC, St. Marys, Lima Shawnee, St. Henry, Ben Logan, Paulding and Lima Senior.

MHS also fielded a team in the JV race. P.J. Stilwell led with way in 31st place at 20:38. Other Rider finishers included Josh Muhlemkamp (50th); Greg Helmstetter (84th); Matt Fledderjohann (88th) and Greg Luthman (92nd).

All of the St. Marys cross country teams will compete in their final home meet of the season Thursday at K.C. Geiger Park against Coldwater and LCC.
