Rider Spikers Stun Titans
ST. MARYS -- The gym was booming Thursday, September 11, as the Rider volleyball team challenged the Ottawa Glandorf Titans.
In what was one of the most thrilling volleyball games that will take place this season, the Riders showed O.G. what it meant to have heart and play hard. O.G., who was undefeated until Thursday night, was dumbfounded by St. Marys, who previously had a 3-5 record. Krissy Haines led the team with 16 kills and 11 digs.
After a tough loss to the New Bremen Cardinals on September 2, the Riders bounced back with a monstrous victory over the Wapakoneta Redskins.
On Tuesday the Cardinals came to Cook Gym and got buried by the Riders in the first game, 15-4. However, when the momentum switched teams in the second game, Bremen took charge, beating the Riders 15-0. The Riders looked like they could get it back in the final game but ended up losing 15-9. For as much talent as we all have were not playing to our full potential, stated Brittany Howell.
Coach Monica VanderHorst agreed, I feel that every game we have played we should have won. We are very competitive but need to get over the hump and put teams away.
The Riders did just that the following Thursday night, September 4, demolishing Wapak, 15-5, 15-1. Krissy Haines led the team with 13 kills and eight digs. Emily Matthews was also an important asset to the team with seven kills. Leading the Riders in assists was Jill Anderson with 13. Maggie Hegemier had ten assists for the night.
The Riders hold a 4-5 record after the defeating of Ottawa Glandorf.
