LAKE CAMPUS -- Pictured above at center is Neil Stemley of New Weston, the newest trustee appointed to the Western Ohio Educational Foundation (WOEF) at the Lake Campus of Wright State University. Stemley will represent Darke County on the WOEF Board. Stemley was welcomed to the Board by Van Wert County Board Trustee Michael Cross, Van Wert County Trustee and Board President Dee Whitcraft, Mercer County Trustee and Board Secretary Helen James, and Auglaize County Trustee and Vice-President Bernard Schroer.
Stemley is retired after more than 40 years as owner of the Stemley Canning Company in New Weston, a food industry company that processes tomatoes. “I have enjoyed a career of working with people; I guess you could call me a people-centered person. And I’ve always had an avid interest in higher education, so I am honored to be able to serve on the WOEF board where I can pursue both of these interests,” Stemley says.
The Western Ohio Educational Foundation was organized in 1962 in response to a growing desire for residents of the region to have access to higher education. For more than three decades, the WOEF Board has remained strongly committed to the success of the Lake Campus. While continuing to serve in its role as citizen advisors, the WOEF Board also supports special projects that more immediately benefit the needs of students. Since 1990, the Board has contributed more than $715,000 in direct scholarship assistance to area students who have chosen to attend the Lake Campus.
