Air Force Jazz Band Sunday
The St. Marys Rotary Club, in conjunction with the St. Marys City Schools, is proud to present the Night Flight Jazz Ensemble from Wright Patterson Air Force Base, on Sunday, August 29, at 6:00 PM in the Memorial High School Performing Arts Center. They appear in St. Marys as a part of the 2004 St. Marys Rotary Club Summer Concert Series.
The Night Flight Jazz Ensemble is one of 13 active duty Air Force Jazz Bands in existence today. As a direct descendant of the original Glenn Miller Army Air Corps Band, the Night Flight Jazz Ensemble continues to preserve the “Glenn Miller sound,” a permanent fixture of America’s national musical heritage. This highly acclaimed 20 piece jazz ensemble performs a diverse and exciting program consisting of swing music of the “Big Band” era, jazz, latin and funk compositions from contemporary big bands, and original music written by members of the band. Night Flight also performs for official military ceremonies and social functions, and for community concerts and festivals throughout the Midwest. Whether performing full-length concerts or supporting official military functions, these active-duty Air Force musicians consistently demonstrate The United States Air Force Band of Flight’s commitment to musical excellence.
Band of Flight members have cultivated their talents with high-level musical training and a wide range of performance experience. Their expertise has garnered numerous invitations to appear at national and international festivals and conferences, including the Detroit-Montreaux Jazz Festival and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. As a result, the band is able to retain the services of jazz recording artists as guest musicians such as Al Vizutti, Rob McConnell, and Arturo Sandoval.
Night Flight, along with all of the components of the Band of Flight, enjoys a reputation for excellence throughout Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
