WSU-LC -- The Grand Lake Symphony Orchestra, in conjunction with the WSU Community Chorale, will be performing at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 17th, in the Andrews Hall Auditorium at the Wright State University Lake Campus. The Campus is located at 7600 State Route 703, just north of US Route 33 between St. Marys and Celina, Ohio. Orchestra works by Gliere, Tchaikovsky, Luigini and excerpts from "Fiddler on the Roof" are scheduled for this program.
Admission and parking are free and open to the public.
The Grand Lake Symphony Orchestra is based at the Wright State University Lake Campus and is entering into its third year in existence under the direction of Dan Jones. Jones, who is an instructor at Ohio Northern University, is a string clinician and former orchestral teacher at Celina High School. The Grand Lake Symphony Orchestra is comprised of area music educators, professors at the Lake Campus, gifted adult instrumentalists from Allen, Auglaize, Shelby and Mercer Counties, and advanced young music students from throughout Eastern Indiana and Western Ohio. Many of the wind instrumentalists also are members of the Lima Area Concert Band; several string students are also members of the Lima Youth Symphony Orchestra.
The goal of the Grand Lake Symphony Orchestra is to continue to grow and advance musical skills of its members while providing both a performing outlet of full orchestral works by musicians in the area in providing classical performances for local audiences.
The Grand Lake Symphony Orchestra performs 1 or 2 concerts each quarter, typically with one concert in conjunction with the Wright State University Community Chorale and one longer full orchestral concert on its own, including an upcoming Holiday Concert in December.
