Rules and Guidelines

• There are to be no less than four (4) and no more than five (5) team members. Substitutes are accepted as long as team signs new waiver during the registration period the day of the race.
• Racers are encouraged to be dressed in theme or support for their organization.
• Teams can bring a fitted, twin bed sheet decorated to match their theme/organization.
• The most original/most spirited team will have its name engraved on the Traveling Bed Pan.
• Course and agility contests will be announced on-location the day of the race.
• Only two beds will race each heat, so beds will be timed. The best time wins!
• Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign for them.
• Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
• The registration fee is $15 and is non-refundable.
• Decisions of the referees and Bed Race committee are final.
• Question/concerns can be addressed to Lisa or Chuck.

All team members (or their guardians) must sign the waiver below by the application deadline of Friday, August 10. Please turn in completed application with a check for the $15 registration fee made out to "St. Marys Summerfest." You can send it by mail or drop it off in person to:

This is just the 4th year for the Summerfest Bed Races, sponsored by LACO Laundry & Dry Cleaning. We are sticking with the changes from last year to make it easier for companies, organizations and groups to join in the fun! The Bed Races are no longer BYOB!! The Summerfest Committee and sponsor have agreed to supply beds for the race. This way, there is no preparation time needed by the teams. To participate, all you need to do is register and show up on Sunday with a team of 3-5 individuals.

The Bed Race Committee sets up a course on South Street in front of Memorial High School. Racers will be asked to follow the course and participate in some agility activities along the way. These Activities will be kept secret until the day of the race. Racers are encouraged to be dressed alike and/or to take on a theme. A traveling trophy will be awarded to the most original/most spirited team, as determined by the Bed Race Committee. There will be cash prizes awarded as well as a take-home goodie for all participants.

The registration fee is just $15. We would also really like to see some challenges between different businesses, civic groups, etc. in town.

The race will be held this year on Sunday, August 12, 2001 at 3:00 pm in front of Memorial High School. Check-in time will be from 2:15 - 2:45 pm.
