Library Dedication Planned

The Board of Trustees, the Staff and the Friends of the St. Marys Community Public Library cordially invite the public to attend the rededication of the library building located at 140 South Chestnut Street in St. Marys. The rededication is set for Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2002. Ribbon cutting and program will take place at 1 p.m. with an open house to follow until 4 p.m.
Donald Glaser, President of the Library Board of Trustees will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the program. Mr. Glaser will welcome those in attendance and make remarks regarding the building and expansion project. The ribbon will be cut by Joy Johnson, former director of the library, with the help of Larry and Ronda Shelby, Carmen Lange, George Neargarder and Anna Mae Saum who were responsible for the levy campaigns.
Mayor Gregory Freewalt will read a proclamation declaring the week of April 14-20, 2002 as National Library Week in St. Marys, Ohio with special recognition of the rededication of the library building. Michael Lucas, State Librarian, will be offering greetings form the State Library of Ohio.
A poem entitled The Library by Barbara A. Huff will be read by Mallory Koch, daughter of Mike and Christy Koch. Susan Heckler Pittman, Library Director, will recognize honored guests, board and staff.
The afternoon is designed to give the public a chance to look around their new library. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library and prepared by Creative Catering will be served in Meeting Rooms A & B. The library will be open for tours on Sunday, April 14 and will resume normal business on Monday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
I would like to remind all those reading this article that the Library Building and Expansion Project was accomplished through the generosity of the voters and taxpayers of the St. Marys community, remarked Susan Pittman, Library Director. I would also like to give credit to MKC Associates, Inc., Architects-Engineers-Planners; Baumer Construction, Inc., General Contractor; Ohio Plumbing and Electrical, Inc., Mechanical Contractor; Koester Electric, Inc., Electrical Contractor; Library Design Associates, Inc., Furniture Procurement and Design and all the other subcontractors who were responsible for the building and its furnishings.
New features at the library include a local history and genealogy room, a computer lab, a meeting room which seats up to 80 with kitchen facilities, seating throughout the main library totaling 100, new entrance off of the parking lot for patron convenience, young adult area, expanded adult, childrens and audiovisual areas and security system.
The original building measured 8,898 square feet, the new portion measures 6,550 square feet totaling 15,448 square feet. The cost to the public is $999,000 with an additional $250,000 used from an expendable trust from the estate of Mary and Joseph Sheets. The projected cost of the Building & Expansion Project is $1,250,000
