ST. MARYS -- Bill and Sally Angel threw out the ceremonial first pitch to open this summer's Little League season at K.C. Geiger Park Tuesday.

The Angels were invited by the St. Marys National Little League Board of Directors to participate in the Opening Day ceremony in part as a thank-you for their generous recent donation to the League.

The Angels are the parents of former St. Marys National Little League player, Danny Swartz, who died in a 1998 automobile accident, at the age of 16.

Because Danny very much enjoyed his Little League experience his parents, Sally and Bill Angel, have made a generous donation in his memory, to the St. Marys National Little League, earmarked for safety-related uses.

In appreciation of the Angels’ thoughtfulness, and to honor the memory of Danny, and all former St. Marys Little Leaguers who are no longer with us, the St. Marys National Little League dedicated the 2002 Little League season to the memory of Danny Swartz.

The brief ceremony opened with a moment of silence in remembrance of Phil Pfeffenberger, St. Marys National Little League president for many years, who died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at the age of 64.
