LIMA - The McBroom Junior High School Boys Cross Country Team captured the Western Buckeye League title Saturday at Farout Park in Lima.
The St. Marys boys captured the junior high title while the girls also ran a strong race, finishing fourth.
The Roughriders edged out Shawnee 53-57 for the title. Van Wert was third with 63, followed by Ottawa-Glandorf with 107, Defiance 126, Celina 144 and Wapakoneta 159.
Jason Durkee and Brad McElroy finished second and third respectfully for the Riders in 11:43 and 11:54. Brett Fredrick was 11th in 12:31, Cory Menkey 19th in 13:00, Kile Irons 21st in 13:06; Josh Cisco 25th in 13:14 and Dex Yelton 53rd in 14:30.
Thomas Scott of Shawnee was the individual winner in 11:32.
Van Wert dominated the girls meet with 31 points, followed by Defiance with 82, Wapakoneta 102, St. Marys 110, Celina 123, Elida 128, Bath 175, Ottawa-Glandorf 181 and Shawnee 212.
The Riders had three girls finish in the top 20, paced by Natalie Ahlers, who was 14th in 13:43; Leslie Humphries 18th in 13:58; and Rachel Stilwell 20th in 14:07.
Kelsy Knous was next for the Riders in 32nd at 14:56, followed by Megan Fledderjohann in 35th at 15:05; Heather Bradford 39th in 15:19 and Emilee Green in 46th at 15:36.
