Cico Tabbed for Teaching Honors
The Lake Campus of Wright State University is proud to announce that Associate Professor of Mathematics Carol E. Cico was one of the nominees for the Ohio Association of Two-Year Colleges (OATYC) Teacher of the Year award.
In nominating Cico for the award, Dr. John R. Wolfe, director of Academic & Instruction Services at the campus, said, Carol Cico is a very talented individual. Her performance as an educator has been consistently evaluated by her students as excellent, which illustrates her mastery of the subject matter. Her magnanimous nature is also evident in her involvement; for example, in the annual Math Day she has traditionally sponsored, allowing other educators the chance to share her talents. In short, Cico is a dedicated, concerned, and innovative individual and a valued individual and colleague.
Cico was among nine instructors nominated for OATYC Teacher of the Year. Pat Sedlak, an instructor of Surgical Technology from Lorain Community College, received the 2001-2002 award.
The Ohio Association of Two-Year Colleges was established to provide a forum in which all state-assisted two-year campuses could meet and discuss mutual problems, thus fostering cooperation and communication among Ohios institutions of higher education. The association meets annually, publishes a journal and newsletter, and recognizes outstanding teachers during the annual convention.
This years convention was held in October at Lorain County Community College. Convention sites are rotated among the 23 Ohio two-year colleges; the Lake Campus has hosted this convention in the past.
Cico began her teaching career as a second quarter sophomore at The Ohio State University and continued to teach at OSU while earning her bachelors and masters degrees in mathematics. She remained there as a lecturer for several years, receiving a Good Teaching Award nomination during that time. She came to the Lake Campus in January 1984. Cico has served on the Wright State University Honors Committee since 1990, has been coordinator of the Lake Campus Honors Program, and has participated in the Career Mentorship Program. She has single-handedly secured funding and established the original guidelines for the Student Excellence Award at the campus. She is a founder, charter member, and treasurer of the Grand Lake Council of Teachers of Mathematics and was coordinator of Western Ohio Mathematics Day for twelve years. Cico has also chaired numerous Lake Campus committees and holds membership in several state and national organizations.
Despite these activities, Cico says she has always done and continues to make teaching in the classroom her number one priority.
