Gilbert Headed for Leadership Class

The Lake Campus of Wright State University is announcing that Student Services Officer Sandy Gilbert has been selected to participate in leadership training as part of the inaugural Leadership Class of 2003 at the upcoming Winter Conference of the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA). The conference is to be held Dec.11-13 in Columbus, Ohio.

In seeking nominations from among OASFAA members, the association’s professional development committee noted they were looking for individuals with “enthusiasm, commitment to aiding the community and students, and leadership potential.” Because of the “outstanding letters of recommendation” the committee received in her behalf, Gilbert is among only 21 other applicants chosen to participate. This inaugural Leadership Training Event, as a component of the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators’ annual Winter Conference, is designed to encourage, nurture, and equip new colleagues to become outstanding leaders not only in the OASFAA association but also on individual campuses as well.

Gilbert will not only participate in the three-day training event but will also attend the entire winter conference and be eligible to attend the upcoming OASFAA spring conference in May, spring conference planning committee meetings, and to assume an active role in the association, for example, participating as a member of an association committee during 2003-04.

Gilbert, a resident of Celina, graduated from Wright State University Lake Campus in 1997 with an associate’s degree in business management. She began working at the Lake Campus as a part-time senior records technician. In 2001, Gilbert was promoted to Student Services Officer, a position that has many areas of responsibility: receiving and accounting for all monies collected, coordinating and facilitating the financial aid process, and serving as liaison to the Western Ohio Educational Foundation and the Lake Campus for coordinating and facilitating the Lake Campus scholarship programs.

Gilbert has been an active member in OASFAA since 1998 and currently serves on its Outreach Committee. A professional organization for individuals actively engaged in the administration of financial aid within the State of Ohio for higher education, OASFAA has a rich history of leadership and a tradition of excellence in the aid community. The association offers state-wide opportunities for training not only through its twice-a-year state conferences but also through regional meetings and individual sessions conducted throughout the year. As a unified voice for financial aid practitioners, the association strives to work with organizations across the state to address concerns relating to its mission and to promote the use of financial assistance to students and families facing the expenses of higher education.
