St. Marys K of C Awards Scholarships
With the rising costs of a college education, more and more students rely on a variety of scholarships to pay for major and miscellaneous expenses. With the purpose of helping students with the rising costs of a college education, the Knights of Columbus, St. Marys Council 1592, continues to help St. Marys residents with its annual Book Scholarship at the Lake Campus of Wright State University.
Three St. Marys residents attending the Lake Campus have been awarded book scholarships of $150 each for the 2001-2002 academic year. The students are Leslie Bergman, Dan Clark, and Amanda K. Gross.
In granting the scholarships, Community Chairman Walt Mangen of St. Marys Council 1592 notes that besides the recipients high academic standings, each is involved in a number of community and other activities.
Leslie Bergman, the daughter of John and Karen Bergman, is finishing up her sophomore year, majoring in marketing. She is a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and works as a student employee in Student Services at the Lake Campus.
The son of Mike and Pat Clark, Dan Clark is a sophomore at the Lake Campus. He is working toward an associate of arts degree in history. Dan works part-time in the Lake Campus library.
Amanda Gross, the daughter of John and Judy Gaerke of St. Marys, is working toward a degree in early childhood education. One of only two repeat recipients of the Knights of Columbus scholarship, Gross is a junior at the Lake Campus, an active member of Holy Rosary Church in St. Marys, and a member of the Womens Bowling League Association.
The Knights of Columbus scholarship is open to any St. Marys area resident attending the Lake Campus who is a continuing student with at least 45 hours of credit, has a high academic standing, and additionally, involvement in community and special merit activities.
Scholarship applications for the 2003-2004 academic year will be available for pick-up January 6, 2003, at the Lake Campus financial aid office or at your local high school guidance office.
