Pictured are the 2002-03 recipients of the Carolyn Bair Memorial Book Scholarship for education majors at the Lake Campus of Wright State University. The scholarships, awarded by the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, are used toward the purchase of course textbooks. Left to right are Jane Long, Alpha Delta Kappa President; scholarship winners Laura M. Franck and Carolyn S. Giesige of Celina; and Matthew P. Baltes of Versailles; Sandy Gilbert, Lake Campus Student Services Officer/Scholarship Coordinator; and Thomas A. Knapke, Lake Campus Assistant Dean of Development.

Bair Book Scholarships Awarded

Matthew Baltes is a freshman at the Lake Campus working toward a degree in Middle Childhood Education. He is the son of Ted and Jennie Baltes of Versailles. Baltes likes to play golf in his spare time. He works seasonally at a local golf course.

Laura Franck, the daughter of Alvin and Pamela Franck of Celina, is a junior in Early Childhood Education at the Lake Campus. While maintaining her own apartment, Laura works at Rite-Aid part-time and has been carrying a 4.0 GPA.

Carolyn Giesige is working toward a degree in Early Childhood Education. She and husband Gregory live in Celina and are the parents of Garrett, Jordan, and Mariel, all Lake Campus students. Carolyn is attending school part-time while she works full-time for Celina City Schools. She is a sophomore and likes to knit, crochet, and play the piano.

Collection and resale of used books finance the awards. Carolyn Bair, in whose memory the scholarships are awarded, was a teacher with the Celina School System. Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority members are from the teaching profession.

Says President Long, “The Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa would like to thank Wright State University for its help and also all the people who donated used books for our Book Sales to make these scholarships possible.”

Scholarship applications for the 2003-2004 academic year will be available for pick-up January 6, 2003, at the Lake Campus financial aid office or at your local high school guidance office. For more information regarding the Academic Excellence Scholarship and other scholarships and grants available at the Lake Campus, contact Student Services Officer Sandy Gilbert in the financial aid office at the Lake Campus, 419-586-0336 or 1-800-237-1477, extension 8336.
