More Laker Records Fall

Pictured is Wright State University Lake Campus Lakers #33 Colby Rager of Van Wert who set a new record for the Men’s Lakers basketball team recently as the Lakers’ won against the University of Cincinnati Clermont. Rager, normally an effective contributor to Lakers’ games, outdid himself against Clermont, scoring 10 three-pointers during the game. Colby scored the 30 points in mostly all-net shots.

The previous record of nine three-pointers was set by Bruce Hetzler of Ansonia in January of 1992, also against Cincinnati Clermont.

Another record was tied the same evening as the team matched its highest score in a 129-95 win over Cincinnati. The first 129-point game was against Indiana University Kokomo in 1984.

The men’s record now stands at 13-8. The team won against Ohio Northern J.V. on Saturday, 84-72. High scorers were Alan Vining with 18 pts. And Craig Walder with 16. Ben Ayers contributed 15 points, and Colby Rager 13.

The team has a home game tonight, at the WSU Nutter Center at 4 p.m. against Ohio University-Lancaster. The WSU Raiders will play Butler following the Lakers’ game.

THE LADY LAKERS’ record is 8-5. In another record-setting game for a Lakers team, the women scored 100 points or more for the second time this year against Ohio University Southern who scored just 37 points in defeat.

An individual record was set by Andrea Evans of Spencerville as she scored a game-high of 25 points and made her first three-pointer ever. Other high scorers were Kate Mueller with 21, Stephanie Brown with 15, and Jenny Shaffer and Erin Thomas with 12 each.

The team plays again Sunday, January 19, at Ohio University-Lancaster and then meets OU Lancaster again in a “home game” at the WSU Nutter Center on Thursday, January 23, at 4 p.m. The game will be played as a preliminary to the WSU Women’s Raiders playing vs. Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Ladies’ coach is Christina Wolcott.

“The teams both have a number of home games at the Auglaize/Mercer Family Y. Come out and root the teams on and enjoy the high caliber of play,” says Lake Campus Athletic Director Ron Rife.
