Arlett J. Pollock-Evans of Lima will speak on “Assertiveness - Speaking Out and Taking Charge of You!” for the 3rd annual On The Edge professional development seminar being offered at the Lake Campus of Wright State University on Thursday, March 27. This session has been approved for contact hours for RN’s and LPN’s, and CEUs may be applied for. Contact the chamber at 419-586-2219 for details.

In addition to being a psychiatric/mental health clinical nurse specialist, Pollock-Evans is a consultant, psychosocial educator, and professional speaker. She has an active professional speaking engagement career and has maintained a private practice for 20 years and worked in hospital settings in Cleveland and Los Angeles as well as 22 years at Lima Memorial Hospital.

Pollock-Evans will teach seminar participants how to differentiate among styles of communication, to identify barriers and enhancements to effective communication, and to demonstrate assertive communication techniques in a presentation style that covers warmth, openness, and enthusiasm.

A recipient of numerous honors and creator of innovative successful hospital based programs, she is a graduate of Case Western Reserve and the University of Dayton. She has also received extensive training with Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross who is known for her work in death and dying.

Among her expertise is supportive counseling in areas including cancer, grief, eating disorders, and women’s health, and she also provides individual, couple, family, and group counseling. Pollock-Evans’ present position is with Comprehensive Mental Health Associates, Inc., Lima.

The day-long seminar, especially developed for the local business and industry community, is being presented by the Celina-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce, the Celina Rotary Club, and the Lake Campus of Wright State University, in cooperation with other area Chambers of Commerce.

From learning how to better understand why customers buy from you and discovering new ways to win over the competition, participants will also receive information from seminar experts on technology and communication, legal hiring practices, dealing with difficult people, and conflict management. Business professionals can gain an edge in creative problem solving and develop new people skills so necessary for success in today's competitive business environment.

The cost for the seminar, which is open to the public, is $50 for the full-day session that includes lunch. Also available are morning or afternoon sessions for just $35 each. Interested persons should contact the Chamber at 419-586-2219 to register today!
