ST. MARYS, OHIO -- This week the featured performing arts event at the Covered Bridge Farmers’ Market will be the Hypnotic Hips Bellydancing Troupe, drumming and dancing from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on the bridge. They are a lively and colorful local act, based at Arts Place St. Marys, that features bellydancing, drumming, and poi-- hawaiian-style twirling of fire or lighted balls. The family-friendly performance is free to everyone, and was made possible by the Eagles Lodge #767, the St. Marys Community Foundation, and Arts Place.
Local produce is ripening fast, and is delicious. This week Candy Forlow will have tomatoes, green beans, zucchini, cucumbers, red potatoes, onions, sweet corn, raspberries and more. The Dues Family will also have fresh produce available, including green peppers, banana peppers, green beans, peas, zucchini, summer squash, onions, and lettuce. Produce is limited, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A welcome addition to the Farmers’ Market this year is Donnie Raymond, who is a host agent for Eat for Life, a local organic farm. They have grass-fed animals, and customers can learn all about how to buy raw milk shares, beef in bulk, and lamb and chicken. Donnie is also selling local raw honey and whole raw nuts, and is at the market every week to answer questions people have about how to make new and healthier food choices.
Many other vendors will also be participating in the Covered Bridge Farmers’ Market in St. Marys this week, including the usual wonderful assortment of bakers, crafters, and artists.
The market opens at 8:00 am every Saturday, and goes until noon, throughout the summer.
Anyone interested in selling their extra produce or home-made items is invited to contact the St. Marys Chamber of Commerce at 419-300-4611 for further information. Space rental costs are very reasonable, and vendor applications are available at the Chamber and at Canalside Book Shop.
