ST. MARYS, OHIO - The Roughrider boys varsity soccer team held off an opportunistic Kenton Wildcat squad by a 4-2 score to claim their third WBL victory of the season and their seventh overall.
St. Marys started the scoring midway into the first half with a storm of three goals over a period of about five minutes and looked as if they were going to run away with the game.
But the Wildcats took advantage of a chance ball bouncing out of St. Marys' goalie Geoff Lee's grasp to close the gap to 3-1 at halftime.
Kenton scored once more in the second half to make things interesting at 3-2. But from then on, the Riders kept the ball in the Wildcats' half of the field, kicking one more goal to end the game at 4-2.
St. Marys record now stands at 3-1 in the WBL and 7-1 overall.
The Riders host Ottoville at 11:00 am this Saturday, September 23, at the new field at West School.
