From staff and wire reports
It's time for Perkins to really begin the defense of its
Division IV state football championship.
But it was Bellevue making the most remarkable playoff
leap.
"We had it figured out and knew we could make
it," coach Ed Nasonti said after his Redmen went from
12th in the Division III, Region 10 computer rankings to
fourth overall announced Sunday.
"We knew we had a big tasks in front of us with Tiffin.
We're so young with just 10 seniors on the team, but you
have to hang in there with the kids and keep fighting."
The Redmen (8-2) take on St. Marys Memorial (7-3) at 7
p.m. Saturday at BAF Stadium.
Bellevue made the impressive jump with its last-minute
35-28 victory Friday over previously undefeated Tiffin
Columbian. The victory left the Redmen with a computer
average of 16.650 after ending Week 9 with 11.0333.
"The big thing was the kids had that hope going into Week
10," Nasonti said. "We've won eight
NOL championships in 10 years, and we're very proud
of that, but with the young kids we have going into Week
10, the whole town is buzzing.
"This really is an exciting time."
