ST. MARYS, OHIO - Work is proceeding on the latest improvement to K.C. Geiger Park, St. Marys' popular recreational facility.
Two youth ball diamonds will feature new permanent dugouts next year. These diamonds (#9 and #10) are used by the MHS varsity and junior varsity softball teams, St. Marys Girls Softball association and St. Marys National Little League minor league and T-ball teams.
Discussions began at a K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Committee meeting late last spring. Because they are regulation size and located side-by-side, the MHS teams preferred to use diamonds 9 and 10 for home games instead of Diamonds 5 and 6, which have fences for boys' baseball and men's softball, respectively.
The Committee agreed to provide a portion of the required funds and the City of St. Marys Parks Dept. is picking up the balance of the planning and manpower. The project is scheduled to be completed over the off-season.
The project includes four concrete block dugout structures, new fencing and concrete slab walkway/bleacher supports.
