St. Marys, Area Teams Form Auglaize County Pony League
ST. MARYS -- A new league is being put together for 13 and 14 year old Pony League baseball players from St. Marys and area communities. Tentatively named the Auglaize County Pony League, the organization will provide competitive, supervised games for youths between Little League and Acme/Jr. Acme age eligibility.
At the second league meeting held January 24, eleven teams committed to join. Six St. Marys teams will compete against teams from Minster, Wapakoneta and Spencerville. ACPL organizers Eric Langsdon and Doug Riesen plan for the league to grow to include as many as 16 teams by the beginning of the season.
The new league will be governed by a Board of League Commissioners made up of one member from each community represented by a team in the league. The commissioners will be responsible for reviewing rules, deciding player eligibility, scheduling games and conducting any other League business as it may arise.
The games will use Ohio High School Athletic Association rules and will be played on Wednesdays and Fridays. Interleague scrimmages may be play Mondays as well.
The new league is intended to be a recreational league, open to all players living in the member school districts.
