Youth Delegates to Travel to Japan

The 2001 St. Marys Sister Cities Youth Delegation is preparing for their trip to our Sister City, Hokudan-cho, Japan, this coming summer. The delegates selected this year are: (front row, left to right) Jon Anderson, Heather Irish, Rachel Dove, Lynda Rupert; (back row, left to right) Mallory Sampson, Magie Daugherty, Casey McEvoy, and Hannah McKee.
Their Japan tour is planned to begin on July 26, 2001. Their travels shall include touring the Japanese cities of Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, and Kobe where they will learn of much Japanese history before traveling to our Sister City, Hokudan-cho. While in Hokudan-cho, the delegates shall reside in Japanese homes and experience the true culture of Japanese living. Our delegation is expected to return on August 8, 2001 along with the Youth Delegation from Hokudan-cho who shall reside in the homes of St. Marys residents until August 17, 2001.
The youth delegates have been very diligent in their efforts to raise funds for their travels. Fund-raisers included smoked turkeys for holiday dining and cream puff candles as stocking stuffers. Future fund-raising events include the sale of chicken dinners and candy bars, a raffle, bingo games and a St,. Marys Celebration in June with crafts, cake wheel, food booths, kiddie land and much more. Delegates are cordially inviting the community to participate in the upcoming events.
Thanks, Todd Fleagle
