Odds Bodkins! Weird Book Blights Local Webspace
ST. MARYS - Native resident Chris Botkin has thrown caution to the the wind and decided to inflict his over-written, disturbing and just plain odd novel, "Water Music," on an unsuspecting Ridertown population.
The epic will appear in a seemingly never-ending series of weekly installments on ridertown.com, apparently designed to allow readers time to recover between assaults.
Why Botkin, respected locally as a long-time member of the St. Marys National Little League and as a founding member of the K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Committee, should risk the public approbation almost certain to swell as a result of this move, is a mystery.
"Hey!" Botkin responded in his own defense. "It's not that bad!"
"Yes, 'Water Music' is intentionally alienating. Yes, it is written in three entirely made-up languages and telepathy, and features no human characters. Yes, the plot can be summarized as 'water flows downhill,'" Botkin explained. "But it really is a warm, funny and touching story of self-realization set in a fantasy wonderland, with sex and violence."
"No kidding!"
Well, at least it's free. You can judge the story for yourself by clicking here. Chapter One is online, with a supporting Forward, Comments, Overture and, believe it or not, a three-language Glossary.
