Duck Race Tickets for Sale

ST. MARYS - Tickets for the 9th annual SummerFest Duck Race (Aug. 12, 6 p.m.) are currently on sale at numerous locations in St. Marys.

Grand Prize sponsors Larry and Michelle Schaaf of Larry Schaaf Auto Sales, Inc. recently sold the ceremonial first ticket to 2001 SummerFest Chairman Kurt Kuffner. The Duck Race is sponsored by the K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Committee, with all proceeds going toward the maintenance and improvement of K.C. Geiger Park.

This year’s grand prize is a 1992 Chevy S-10 Blazer. The four-wheel drive, four-door vehicle comes complete with a customized finish package, which was generously donated by B&K Body Shop of St. Marys.

To get a duck in the race, you need to fill out a numbered ticket. A rubber duck with a corresponding number will be placed in the race and will be eligible for numerous cash and merchandise prizes.

Ducks are $5 each, and tickets are currently available at: Larry Schaaf Auto Sales Inc.,
1525 Celina Rd.,; B & K Body and Paint Shop, 406 Derrick Street; Friendly Tavern, 115 South Main Street; C & C Loft & Lounge, 223 East Spring Street; Miller Cafe, 233 East Spring Street; Duffy's Lounge, 1321 Celina Road; Big Bear Store, 1550 Celina Road; Chief Supermarket, 1220 Indiana Avenue;the K.C. Geiger Park Concession Stand or from any member of the K.C. Geiger Park Improvement Committee.

Second prize in this year’s race is a set of four Goodyear Tires, which have been donated by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. of St. Marys. So far a record purse of 80 cash and merchandise prizes have been donated with an approximate value of nearly $10,000.

The prize list currently includes numerous “Lucky Ducks” ranging in value from $20 to $100. The Lucky Ducks are non-yellow ducks spread throughout the race. The first numbered duck to cross the finish line after a Lucky Duck will win the amount of money donated by the Lucky Duck’s sponsor.

The Committee is currently soliciting prize donations and will publish updates to the list as the race nears. A complete prize list and other race information is available on the internet at https://ridertown.com.

The race will begin on the St. Marys River in Memorial Park at 6 p.m. Aug. 12.

The slate of celebrities for the third annual Duck Race Celebrity Regatta is nearly complete. Local celebrities will be racing down the river on intertubes in two heats beginning at 5 p.m. The top three finishers in each heat will square off in the finals, just prior to the regular Duck Race.

Celebrities expected to compete so far include: 2000 defending champion and St. Marys City Schools Business Manager Kurt Kuffner; 1999 champion and former SummerFest Queen Jenny Botkin; 2000 SummerFest Queen Jenny Strickland; 85th District Ohio Representative Derrick Seaver; Auglaize County Sheriff Deputy Al Solomon; Noble Elementary School teacher Joe Ginter; physician and surgeon Dr. Robert Keighley; Pet Roundup owner Linda Bubp; Memorial High School Baseball Coach and Guidance Counselor Bill Cheslock; and WCSM radio personality Jim Coons.
