The Auglaize County Historical Society

An organization dedicated to the past...
                        with a vision for the future:

The Auglaize County Historical Society has dedicated itself to collecting, preserving and interpreting local history since its establishment in 1963.

With county museums in St. Marys and Wapakoneta and the local historical society museums throughout the county, good people have been doing good work in preserving our local heritage.

Preserving our local heritage for future generations is an important job. We need your help. Your membership in the Auglaize County Historical Society enables us to continue this commitment to preserve the past and provides you the opportunity to share in this important effort, to participate directly in celebrating our heritage. Your membership helps us do many good things:

  • MUSEUMS
    The Society owns and operates the Daniel Mooney Museum in St. Marys, the Gary Log House on the Auglaize County Fairgrounds and the local history museum in Wapakoneta.
  • PUBLICATIONS
    Reprints of historic books, maps, documents, local history tour guides, bimonthly newsletters and more are published by the Society.
  • SCHOOL PROGRAMS
    Volunteers work with local teachers to provide student tours of local historic sites and museums, class room visits and special presentations.
  • SPECIAL PROJECTS & EVENTS
    Seminars, guest speakers, receptions, special tours, a speaker's bureau and a variety of other events are part of the Society's annual programming. Two such projects were the Statue of Justice Restoration in 1994 and the Auglaize County Sesquicentenniel in 1998.
  • RESEARCH & REFERRALS
    many people aturn to the Society each year for historic information about genealogy, local businesses, schools and government. The Society also works with other local history organizations in the county on special projects.

The Society's five annual newsletters contain information about local history, preservation and upcoming events.
  • MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS
    General membership meetings are held five times per year, and feature special speakers and programs.
  • RESEARCH
    Use of the research facilities at each museum location, including our library, archives and special collections, is available to members.

 

Every community in Auglaize County has an interesting story to tell. Preserving this heritage and promoting public understanding are the purposes of the Auglaize County Historical Society. We invite you to join us in this important work.
