Claude "Pete" Smith

Claude "Pete" Smith, 76, of 817 Columbia Street, St. Marys, Ohio, died 8:16 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio.

He was born July 12, 1925, in Spencerville, Ohio, the son of Elizabeth Sarka Smith.

He married Barbara Campbell on November 1, 1952; she survives at the residence.

He is survived by five children: Michael (and Terri) Smith of Lima; Kathy (Dennis) Schwarck of St. Marys; Tim (and Michelle) Smith of St. Marys; Susie Kolsky (and close friend, Dan Frysinger) of St. Marys; Harry (and Karen) Smith of New Bremen, Ohio.

He is survived by thirteen grandchildren: Christopher Smith of San Diego, California; Julie Smith of Delphos; Jeff Smith of Delphos; Joshua Kolsky of St. Marys; Katie Schwarck of St. Marys; Krystal Kolsky of St. Marys; Sarah Smith of St. Marys; Matthew Schwarck of St. Marys; Erika Smith of New Bremen; Abby Smith of St. Marys; Lucas Smith of New Bremen; Cassidy Smith of New Bremen; Olivia Smith of New Bremen; and by one great-grandchild, Brandyn Smith of Delphos.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one son, Jeffrey Smith.

He was retired from Hayes-Albion Corporation, Spencerville; he had also worked for 25 years at the former Weston Paper Mill, St. Marys. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, St. Marys. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 767, St. Marys. He loved outdoors activities, including camping, fishing and birdwatching.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002,at the Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, St. Marys, Ohio, the Reverend James Nuhfer officiating. Burial will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery, east of Spencerville. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the Long and Folk Funeral Home, where memorial donations may be directed to the Grace United Methodist Church.
