Robert Gordon Shuffelton Sr, 98, formerly of 689 Coventry Green Saint Marys, and a resident of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, died 6:10 A.M. Friday, October 25, 2002, at Otterbein Saint Marys.
He was born August 20, 1904, in Saint Marys, the son of Frank and Sarah (Gordon) Shuffelton.
He married Harriet Sullivan on June 29, 1935; she preceded him in death on October 9, 1981.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ann (Dick) Hudson of Saint Marys; Mrs. Jean (Jim) Sullivan of Bowling Green, Ohio; by one son, Robert (Marguerite) Shuffelton, Jr of Ecscandido, California.
He is survived by eight grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Shuffelton of Saint Marys; by a close friend Ellen Weadock of Saint Marys.
Mr. Shuffelton was a 1922 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School; he had attended Ohio State University and Northwestern University. He retired as the Vice-President of Sales at the Fisher Cheese Company. He then worked as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Saint Marys Chamber of Commerce for many years.
Mr. Shuffelton was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Hamer Lodge, F&AM. He was a member of the Valley of Dayton Shrine Club and a member of the Aug-Mer Shrine Club. He had served on the Board of the Auglaize County Council on Aging; he was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church, Saint Marys. He enjoyed fishing; he had sold Studebakers and Chevrolet Automobiles early in his career and he had a lifelong love of automobiles.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 28, 2002, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, the Reverend John Tostrick officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Saint Marys.
Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Sunday and one hour prior to services at the Miller Funeral Home, where memorial donations may be directed to either Darke-Mercer Hospice; Shrine Burn Hospital; Otterbein Saint Marys; or the JTDMH Foundation.
