ST. MARYS, OHIO - Homer E. Maxson, 79, 2100 Celina Road in St. Marys, died at 2:40 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home in Wapakoneta.
He was born April 26, 1924, in Van Wert, to Durbin and Arlene (Roller) Maxson.
He first married Pearl Lamb. On Dec. 4, 1982, he married Norma Clouner, and she survives at the residence.
Mr. Maxson is survived by five daughters, Carol McDowell of Newport News, Va., Nancy Greiwe of Waynesfield, Catherine (Art) Stimmel of Elida, Barbara (John) Gieder of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Terry (Rodney) Doyle of Martinsville, Ind.; two sons, Virgil Maxson of Lima and Dennis (Kathy) Maxson of Wapakoneta; two stepdaughters, Debra Brewer of St. Marys and Retha Best of Winnfield, La.; one stepson, Carey Clouner of St. Marys; 32 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edward Maxson of Saginaw, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Durbin Maxson; and two brothers, Carl and Virgil Maxson.
Mr. Maxson was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving in Europe during WWII. He was retired from the Minster Machine Company, where he had worked as an electrician.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, where he was a past Post Commander and one of the founders of the post's Clown Unit; a life member of Disabled American Veterans Post 119, St. Marys; American Legion Post 210, Celina; MOC Pup Tent No. 61 in Celina and the Minster Machine 25-Year Club.
He loved golfing and was a member of the Northmoor Golf Club Hole-in-one Club. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wapakoneta.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road in St. Marys. The Rev. Michael Nicols will officiate. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Memory Gardens with the VFW Post 9289 conducting graveside military rites at the committal service.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
